History of the Abyssal Family

You would be hard pressed to find a more well known family in the Underworld than that of the Abyssals, the current monarchs of the demon world. Both feared and respected by many, the Abyssals have reigned over demons for a surprising amount of time, spanning at least around 2000 - 2500 years. Many have tried wrestling power from them, only to be swiftly punished for their transgressions and sent to a life of never-ending torture and/or death.

Where exactly the Abyssals came from is hard to say. In the annals of demon history, the first Abyssal was said to emerge from the crevices of the dark abyss, already clad in armor forged within the recess of ultimate darkness with a blade darker than obsidian. This Abyssal would become the first monarch of the family, the self proclaimed Elyon of the Abyss, who stormed across the Underworld and dethroned the current demon that had proclaimed himself king. Despite her strength, many challenged her authority and were met with a painful death upon trying to defeat her. Nothing seemed to faze the new Demon Queen and after one hundred years, most demons gave up ever trying to take the throne from her.

Underneath her iron rule, Queen Elyon I established a sort of stability within the demon world. Beforehand, demons were ruled by whoever was the strongest at the time and were constantly being overthrown by one another; only ruling up to a year at the most (the shortest any demon had been ruler was a mere five minutes). Once in power, however, Elyon I made sure that sort of chaotic and short-term ruling was done away with in favor for a long-term monarchy.

After Elyon of the Abyss, the Abyssal family has not once faltered from their ruling, their power only increasing with each generation. How they got so powerful to begin with is still unknown, though many theorize it is because they are darkness incarnate and, thus, too powerful to really be defeated by normal means. Regardless, the family was the last family to wrestle power in the demon world and have kept it proudly for over two thousand years. If someone COULD defeat the current ruler, King Javerick Abyssal, then they would be crowned the new monarch while also having the right to boast for defeating the longest reigning demon family in existence.
